CVSA’s Brake Safety Week – August 23–29
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will conduct Brake Safety Week from August 23–29. This annual seven-day inspection and enforcement initiative is intended to enhance roadway safety by ensuring that commercial motor vehicles are equipped with properly maintained and fully functioning braking systems.
Throughout the initiative, inspectors across North America will perform routine commercial motor vehicle inspections with a focus on brake systems, specifically drums and rotors. Motor carriers and drivers are strongly encouraged to complete comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify that all brake components are in proper working condition prior to vehicle operation.
The objective of Brake Safety Week is to reduce the risk of crashes through roadside inspections and by educating drivers, mechanics, and motor carriers on the importance of effective brake inspection, maintenance, and operation.
Waiver to Allow Paper Medical Cards Extended
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced they
are extending the waiver to continue to allow the use of a paper
copy of the medical examiner’s certificate as proof of the driver’s
medical certificate until October 11, 2026. This waiver applies to
drivers with a CDL and CLP (Commercial Learner’s Permit) and allows
them to use the paper copy up to 60 days after the issue date.
