Paper Medical Card Waiver Ending October 11, 2026
The FMCSA waiver allowing CDL and CLP drivers to use paper copies of their Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC) will expire on October 11, 2026.
As of August 2026, Alaska and Louisiana were the only states not yet compliant with the federal requirement to electronically transmit driver medical certification results. This waiver represents the third extension issued by the FMCSA, and no further extensions are anticipated.
Beginning October 12, 2026, carriers should ensure that CDL and CLP drivers' medical certification information has been properly submitted and recorded through the applicable state licensing agency.
